American History

I am a 2008 USC graduate with a B.A. in U.S. Political History, American History and Eastern European History. My focus areas are Early Colonial to The Reformation Period, coinciding with Great Britain and the French Revolution. The basis for understanding historical context is conceptually rooted in the fundamentals of deductive reasoning and logic. Therefore, the Historical Method must first be taught in order for a student to comprehend and retain any historical subject matter.

English

I provide personalized instruction in basic grammar phonetics, semantics (formal/informal), reading comprehension and sentence analyzing for students having difficulty with subjective context and methodology, initiating the logical process of communication and language. I also assist students with learning disabilities using a variety of approved methodologies.

Subject Categories; Analogies, Metaphors, Foundational Logic, First Order Logic, Automic Formulae, IPA, Basic Grammar, Reading and Writing structure and comprehension.

GED

Certified for GED test preparation.

Photography

I have been a freelance photographer for over five years, photographing the local music scene in Columbia and surrounding areas. I have photographed several signed bands and many local artists use my photography for their promotional and Facebook profiles. I also photograph nature and historical sites as well. I own a Canon Rebel EOS 1100D with various lenses, shoot manual/raw and comprehend the various aspects of digital photography, the scientific concepts and processes, lighting, aperture and ISO modes. I am also fluent in utilizing editing programs such as Lightroom and Photoshop and I will be pursuing a degree in Photography next year.

Public Speaking

I assist students seeking to improve their Public Speaking skills by introducing the methods of proper execution of consonants and vowels as stipulated by the International Phonetics Alphabet. I have completed Public Speaking at The University of South Carolina with subsequent instruction in Theater and Drama. Classroom experience includes, student lecturing, presentation, teaching and Acting. Associated courses taken: Semantics, Atomic Formulae, Carnigie Melon University (OLI), Linguistics (USC), English/Grammar (Midlands Technical College; USC) and Self study in excelled Grammatical Expression. Methods include: Phonetics, grammar, elocution, enunciation, pronunciation and semantics, combined with proper breathing techniques and vocals.

Reading

Focus areas in English/Grammar include: Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Creative Writing, Phonetics (IPA) and Semantics.

Social Studies

My education in the Social Sciences includes a B.A. in History and a minor in Anthropology to include several interdisciplinary subjects such as, Geography, Sociology, Civics, Religion, Government, Public Speaking and Economics. I completed a cognate in Comparative Religion while completing my Liberal Arts degree in 2005 and taught high school history and geography as a substitute teacher for Lexington School District #5 in 2009. These subjects are specifically designed to create an awareness of civic duty and build knowledge of how society and government functions, while incorporating a general understanding of local, regional and national culture. Some academic programs include Art History and Music as well.

Study Skills

I offer assistance with differential learning methods pertaining to Study Skills, as not all students learn or self-study by the same methodology. Therefore, I make an assessment of the student's learning technique (visual or analytical) and identify difficulties in study habits, then create a program specific to that student's particular method of learning. The fundamental aspect of a tutor's purpose is to make certain the student is prepared to pass an exam. Areas of Experience: General studies, study techniques for differential learning and students with disabilities in K-12, GED and college entrance exam test prep.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
