I've always had a problem with having too many interests. I've never been able to narrow it down. I love playing cello, and am only a few credits away from a music major. I also have a great fascination with American History. But my real passion (and major) in college was English literature. Carrying on this passion to the real world, I joined Peace Corps and moved to Ukraine for two years to teach others English as a foreign language. Along the way, I fell in love with Russian and am now fluent. Having an English background, which helps me understand the grammar and logical rules of languages, along with an organic learning experience from native Russian speakers makes me effective at teaching Russian.

Cello

I minored in cello at Presbyterian College, even taking extra classes, only a few classes short from a major. I was first chair in the Presbyterian College Orchestra, and at the encouragement of my teacher, put on a senior recital.

General Music

I am 1 or 2 credits away from a music major. I took piano lessons from the age of 5 for 15 years, and continue to play now on my own. I started to play cello in 7th grade and minored in music with an emphasis on cello in college. I was first chair in my college orchestra. I have played in orchestras and small ensembles my whole life. I continue to listen to and study all types of music, including classical.

Guitar

I started to teach myself guitar when I was very young. I minored in music in college and am only a few credits away from a music major. I also play cello, piano, and mandolin. I have been giving informal guitar lessons to friends for years.

Music History

I am 1 or 2 credits away from a music major. I have taken music history classes in college, and studied it on my own through books, articles, and academic journals. I have played in orchestras and small ensembles since 7th grade and have learned a lot from those experiences.

Piano

I took piano lessons for 15 years. Then, I minored in music in college and am only a few credits away from a music major. I continue to play and give lessons occasionally.

Russian

I lived in Crimea Ukraine for two and a half years and was trained by the Peace Corps to speak in Russian.
