I am the Mother of a (now adult) child with Learning Disabilities. We home-schooled for a time, then she went to private school. She got the top academic scholarship for her undergraduate college, then had the top two programs nationally fighting to give her full funding for her PhD. I would LOVE to help any student, including those with learning disabilities, learn HOW to take charge of their learning and achieve their own maximum potential!

I also have extensive experience in preparing for college, college applications, and the college search process.

I have an MFA (Master of Fine Arts - the studio arts equivalent of a PhD) and currently teach at Northeastern Technical College in Cheraw, SC, part time. I have taught from pre-K through adults. I have been on the SC Arts Commission Approved Artist Roster for over 30 years, and have taught all over SC with funding from the SC Arts Commission.

I LOVE to teach and share the joy of learning with my students! I use a lot of non-traditional learning methods in working with students, in addition to more traditional learning strategies. I do NOT believe in a "one size fits all" approach!

I am happy to Skype tutor if you are not in my geographic area.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an MFA (the equivalent of a PhD in Studio Art), and currently teach as an Adjunct at Northeastern Technical College in Cheraw, SC. I was a Girl Scout leader for many years, from the kindergarten level through high school. The Girl Scout badges cover most of the subjects covered in school at these ages. I am a mother of a daughter with Learning Disabilities, and we home-schooled for a number of years. She is now completing her PhD at UNC-Chapel Hill with a full scholarship - so clearly I did something correctly teaching her. I read voraciously, love learning, and love igniting that passion for learning with students. I feel I am completely qualified to teach in the K-6 level in any subject matter except a foreign language.

Special Needs

I am the mother of a now-adult daughter with significant Learning Disabilities. I home-schooled her for a number of years; I am certified by Very Special Arts SC for working with Special Needs students; I helped found Very Special Arts SC before my daughter was even born! My daughter went from being a number of grade levels behind to being offered the top academic scholarship at her undergraduate college, and then having the nations' top two universities in her field fighting to give her a full ride for her PhD. I have experience working with a range of disabilities from working with my daughter and doing residencies throughout the SC schools for over 30 years.
