I have over ten years of experience in the fields of behavior management and modification specializing in children and adults on the autism spectrum, emotional and behavioral disorders, and mild to severe cognitive impairments. I have five years of experience teaching elementary, middle, and high school level children and have taught each content area in many of those grade levels. Children often struggle to learn in content areas during school not simply because of the teaching, materials and pedagogy but because of the environment and the ineffective behavior management in the classroom.
Successful and effective learning can only occur when each child is ready and available to attend to the academic task and in that zone of proximal development. As your child's tutor, I will not simply teach them the desired materials & content, I will prepare them to learn in the classroom and reduce or eliminate the problematic behaviors and/or attentional deficits that impede their learning maximizing success in the classroom. Furthermore, I will work towards the conceptualization of the content rather than simple memorization as described in Blooms Taxonomy of higher level learning.
Currently, I hold a valid RIDE teaching certification for elementary education and special education (mild/moderate) as well as a RIDE emergency certification in secondary special education.
