In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have been working at a private school for the past 5 years that educates students with various learning challenges. Many of our students have language disabilities with the addition of ADD/ADHD. At our school we incorporate multiple movement breaks and strategies to help the students get through sitting in class. With in our collaborative team is an occupational therapist and speech pathologist, so our lessons are a lot of fun hands on activities to keep students engaged. Some of the strategies we use with our students are oral supports (gum, tic tacs, etc), "fidgets" (puddy, stress balls, etc), movement (jumping jacks, push ups, stretches, etc) and taking breaks (quiet space, talk it out).
