Hello! In this age in which standardized testing can appear to “rule all", it is easy for individuals to lose the joy of learning, to lose confidence in their own abilities, and to fall through the cracks in the classroom. My name is Roger M., and I can give you the personal attention that may have been lacking in your academic environment.
I earned my master’s degree in education at Brown University in 2000. Over the past 11 years of teaching, I have had proven success with many types of students, including those who have ADHD, autism, and other learning differences. I have had equal success with gifted students who require more advanced challenges than is typical of their grade level. I am certified (RI-8234) to teach in Rhode Island for grades 1-6, and most recently my students earned 95% proficiency in NECAP reading as well as 85% proficiency in NECAP math. Many of those students earned scores exceeding state expectations.
I have taught ESL (English As a Second Language) classes to both children and adults. I also have experience tutoring individuals with schizophrenia and brain trauma. I have received special training in teaching older students test taking skills for standardized testing such as the SATs. Finally, for the past 5 years or so I have taught guitar lessons for children.
I employ a positive, patient and effective style of teaching. Every individual is unique and capable of maximizing their potential. Visual, verbal, and hands-on learning are an integral part of my pathway to reach any student. This eclectic approach to teaching allows for active, enthusiastic and successful learning.
It would be a pleasure to share this learning experience with you or your child. I look forward to working with you!
