During my college years at Boston College, I enjoyed a diverse curriculum built upon a love for both the classics of English literature and biochemistry. I graduated magna cum laude in 2011 having completed an honors thesis on the poetry of Wallace Stevens, and I will attend the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University in the fall of 2014.

My love for teaching began during my junior year at Boston College, when I began working as a teaching assistant for Anatomy & Physiology and Introductory Biology courses. During my senior year, I worked as an English writing tutor in BC’s Connors Family Learning Center, helping hundreds of science students writing technical papers, liberal arts students completing theses in their respective majors, and ESL students practicing English grammar.

Now, I specialize in tutoring English writing, proofreading, grammar, and literature. Whether working with college students who struggle with English as a second language, or high school students preparing college essays, my goal is always to provide a challenging, yet rewarding experience for the student. With students who plan on working with me over multiple sessions, I assign challenging homework after lessons and provide periodic assessments and project reports.

I value my own time as well as yours. I often ask for feedback, and I never bill for a lesson in which the student or parent is not completely satisfied with my tutoring. And while I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I am happy to offer makeup classes for committed students on a case-by-case basis.

To ensure that students have a quiet, comfortable workspace while with me, I prefer to tutor in my office on Harvard University’s Cambridge campus, where I am employed full-time. I am, however, happy to travel to other locations accessible by the Boston T if it is more convenient for the student. I prefer to work outside of normal work hours (e.g. before 9am or after 5pm) and am available on weekends.

I look forward to hearing from you and providing more information about my services. Contact me to get started on achieving greater success in your studies!

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I majored in English at Boston College and graduated with high honors (magna cum laude). I also wrote an honors thesis on the poetry of Wallace Stevens in the context of late-Victorian aestheticism.

ESL/ESOL

I have one year's worth of tutoring experience (15-20 hours per week) in the Boston College Connors Family Learning Center. There, I worked directly with ESL students, mostly in the scientific disciplines, helping them edit papers and master English grammar rules.

Grammar

In addition to my bachelor's degree in English, I have worked for the past four years in an editing capacity. In 2010, I worked as an editor and writer for the Boston College journal Elements; in 2011, I worked as an English writing tutor, focusing on grammar, proofreading, and argument composition; upon graduating, I began working as a proofreader and paralegal for a mid-sized Boston law firm; and since 2012, I have worked as a laboratory coordinator, grants writer, publication specialist, and editor for a infectious disease genomics research group at Harvard University.

Literature

I majored in English at Boston College and graduated with high honors (magna cum laude). I also wrote an honors thesis on the poetry of Wallace Stevens in the context of late-Victorian aestheticism. I am an avid reader and focused during college on nineteenth century Victorian literature, as well as American modernism.

Proofreading

In 2010, I worked as an editor and writer for the Boston College journal Elements; in 2011, I worked as an English writing tutor, focusing on grammar, proofreading, and argument composition; upon graduating, I began working as a proofreader and paralegal for a mid-sized Boston law firm; and since 2012, I have worked as a laboratory coordinator, grants writer, publication specialist, and editor for a infectious disease genomics research group at a university.

Writing

I majored in English at Boston College and graduated with high honors (magna cum laude). While in college, I published a research article in Inorganic Chemistry Communications as well as Elements, the undergraduate research journal at BC. I also wrote an honors thesis on the poetry of Wallace Stevens in the context of late-Victorian aestheticism, a three-chapter thesis spanning over 100 pages.

Excellent Communication — It was a great experience to engage Andrew for tutoring our son in English. Andrew is a patient teacher and communicates very well on the progress of our son on a regular basis. He was quick in alerting us if our son came unprepared for the lessons. In Andrew, we found a true partner for our son's education. We are sorry to say goodbye to Andrew as he is pursuing studies medicine and will not have ...
