I have a Ph.D. in Classics from Brown, and over the past seven years, I have taught a broad range of courses in literature, language, and history. I have developed a strong student-focused approach that aims at understanding students' needs and differences in the learning process. Many of my courses have a solid writing and research component, and I love working with students to help them write convincingly and effectively.

In addition, I have designed and taught courses on English vocabulary and grammar (gerunds, anyone?), and I have worked for one of the leading test-prep companies to prepare students for the GRE, including verbal reasoning and analytical writing sections.

As a tutor, I am like a personal trainer--depending on your goals, I can help you design and execute a study plan that works for you. This may involve regular academic "work-outs" with me, or a periodic check-in to set up a new exercise schedule, or intensive training before a big game.

I look forward to speaking with you about your interests and needs in Latin, writing, English grammar, vocabulary, and GRE prep.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I have worked as a college-level instructor for 7 years, where I have worked extensively with freshmen. I have a strong sense of what makes students more prepared for college. Also, I have helped many students write successful scholarship applications, and I have coordinated the admissions process for Stanford's Summer College program.
