I am a graduate of Harvard College, where my major was in English and American Language and Literature, with an emphasis on creative writing. I have also studied motivational, developmental, and group psychology. As such, in my teaching and tutoring assignments, I emphasize methods that are geared to the learning styles of the individual student.

I have spent most of my career as a professional librarian. I have worked for over twenty years in the Harvard University library system, with a particular expertise in instructing people in research methods. I also have two years of experience as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Rhode Island. I have a Master's Degree in Library Science, as well as a Master's Degree in History, both from URI. I have also been a freelance journalist for over thirty years.

The following is a testimonial offered by the members of a literary discussion group which I led while Director at a Public Library. "Mr. D. has been a group member for several years and discussion leader for the last two. In this capacity he has exhibited a vast knowledge and understanding of American, English and Foreign authors. His familiarity extends beyond primary to secondary literatures and he remains diligent on staying informed and current on contemporary trends. Each member of the group, which includes teachers of Russian, German, and Swedish literature, has been favorably impressed by his vast knowledge and wide range of interests. We have appreciated his professionalism and insight. He motivated us to learn not just from the chosen readings but from each other as well."

One of my library school teachers, Professor Cheryl M., has this to say: "Francis's intelligence and knowledge of history enables him to teach with confidence as well as to create a positive interactive learning environment for undergraduate students. He enthusiastically engaged students in history projects and his enthusiasm was contagious when he was a Teacher's Assistant in the History Department at URI."

I enjoy a challenge, and I am creative, flexible, and persistent. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about helping people learn. I am currently looking to use my years of teaching experience in assisting others to attain their full potential.
