Hello,
My name is Tim and I've been teaching ESL in Thailand at the higher education level for sixteen years. I'm fluent in the Thai language, so I know the challenges faced by language learners. I'm a former US Peace Corps Volunteer (TEFL), trained by the US government to teach English using the communicative approach. I have over 20,000 hours of classroom teaching and have tutored students from high school to university since 1994.
The communicative approach views language as useful in our daily lives. I try to avoid complicated grammar explanations, and instead focus on common words, phrases and pronunciation. I show students what they need to know to learn a language. In addition, I also have extensive experience tutoring learners how to write academic papers, abstracts, speeches and coherent e-mails. I'm experienced in teaching phonetics, literature and business English, and always integrate the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in all my lesson plans.
I'm an affable and patient teacher, have a good sense of humor, and sincerely enjoy working with students. I prefer to tailor lessons according to student needs, rather than imposing arbitrary standards.
I would like to help you too!
Sincerely,
Tim
