My name is Doug and I am an artist living in East Bridgewater, MA. My day job is working as a waiter for a catering company, but my other source of income is based in my true love of being an artist. I am experienced in painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, crafts, and programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. My personal experience with art covers a lot of ground, I run my own personal freelance photography business where I work with commercial clients, portraits, and fine art photography. I am also a painter who has shown in galleries in Providence, Worcester, and Cape Cod, and continue to work in creating paintings to exhibit and sell more. I also work as a photography assistant for a local food photographer, working for clients such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Rhode Island Monthly, Foxwoods Resort, and many others!
As a recent college graduate my goal is to just keep creating art, and begin inspiring other young artists in developing personal inspiration and creative freedom. In the future I plan to continue my education with graduate school, and eventually become an art educator. I am a positive, upbeat person who really enjoys learning and helping those learn more about their own artistic talents and really helping improve their confidence and talents.
If I sound like a good match I would love to hear from you and talk further about your own personal artistic goals and in what ways I can help you achieve that! I ensure you I can provide an encouraging and conducive environment for excelling at creating art!
Photoshop is an exciting way to really emphasize your personal creativity and ingenuity in creating images. Understanding the different settings, filters, layers, and tricks of Photoshop really allow the user to understand how to make subtle changes in the way they create art. Also, a major aspect of Photoshop is understanding how to do surreal manipulations to create fantastical images, such as the illusion of levitation.
Drawing is the basic guidelines in which art develops. An artist must be confident in drawing, which includes sketching, thumbnail sketches, detailed observation, and creative imagination drawing. The student should utilize their different tools of pencils and charcoal, and learn how to use them to the absolute best of their ability to maximize their potential for the student in drawing.
I am an artist. My experience in painting is using watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting. An important lesson of each is utilizing the correct types of brush for each type of paint, and also learning the different methods of paint application and treatment for each type. You would have to teach color blending and how to create the colors you want and not to rely on paint directly from the tube, and also utilizing color to create depth and dimension in the composition. Students should also investigate various artists to figure out which type of painting style appeals to the, whether it be realism, abstract expressionism, or neo expressionism for example. Also students can develop a sense of subject matter that appeals to them, whether it be landscape or portrait, abstract or interpretive. Painting is truly one of the rawest sense of creativity in really creating whatever you want based on inspiration and knowledge of color and paint application.
I run my own personal freelance photography business where I work with commercial clients, portraits, and fine art photography. Photography is a completely different method of approaching art because you use the camera as a tool of interpreting something that exists and manipulating the scene to create and image you would like. Whether it be analog or digital photography, the student must be knowledgeable and confident in utilizing aperture, ISO, and shutter speed to manipulate the camera to do what you want to create. Important lessons of photography are composition, aesthetics, subject matter, and using special tricks and methods to stand out as a photographer rather than someone who has a camera.
