My hope is to have students feel comfortable and confident in their learning. I strive to make learning fun by connecting what the student is learning to something they know such as a sport or game or by making what they learn into a game. For example, to reinforce math skills, students could play a game such as math baseball. The skills they have already learned could be also be reinforced by an online jeopardy game for example. Songs, rhymes, and other hands-on activities are also fantastic ways to help students understand and retain information. I understand that all students have different styles of learning, so my goal is to help you child reach their full potential in my sessions. I will achieve this goal but understanding how they learn best and teaching them accordingly. I have a graduate degree in Special Education and I am currently seeking a job in the education field.
Most recently, I was a special educator in the Alternative Learning Center (ALC) in North Attleborough Middle School. My students had a range of disabilities including autism, aspergers, and behavioral issues. I taught English Language Arts, Social Studies, and social skills to 6th-8th graders. I communicated with parents, teachers, counselors, and administration on a daily/weekly basis in which we had a positive rapport. I feel I am highly qualified because I constructed IEP's, conducted educational testing, worked with a team to produce behavioral plans, utilized a token economy system, modified lessons, and made accommodations to meet the needs of the learners in my highly structured classroom.
Before my current position, I was a special education teacher at a private therapeutic day school in which I taught for three school years. I worked with a co-teacher in a classroom with a three to one student to teacher ratio. The students had a range of disabilities and I worked with teachers, specialists, clinicians, behavior specialists, and psychologists to make all students successful. I learned the importance of a sensory diet and calming/de-stressing techniques for students.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
