Currently, I am in graduate school studying for my middle school endorsement at Rhode Island College. My content area is in Social Studies, and my undergraduate degree is in Economics from the University of Rhode Island. I have tutored students in reading, writing, Social Studies, SAT, SSAT, and Study Skills at the elementary, middle and high school level.

Additionally, I taught for several years in a special needs school. My teaching style incorporates differentiated instruction to maximize student learning, and I am flexible and creative to meet each student's learning style.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I worked in a special needs school as a teacher for several years. During this time I taught students with ADD/ADHD. Additionally, I wrote and implemented students' IEP's. I have tutored students previously who were diagnosed ADD/ADHD.

Algebra 1

I have been tutoring students in Algebra I for two years now, and my students achieve a minimum of one grade level improvement from my tutoring.

College Counseling

I have assisted students in the past with their research involving scholarships. I am knowledgeable about colleges requirements and admission processes.
I have excellent research skills.
In my position as graduation coach I assisted seniors in researching and applying for scholarships. I also tutored students in writing college application essays.

Elementary (K-6th)

I tutored students at the elementary level through the No Child Left Behind Supplementary Education Services. During this time I tutored students in Math, Reading, and Writing. I tutored grades one through six.

GED

I have taught GED classes in the past.

ISEE

I have been tutoring the SSAT and the ISEE for three years now. The SSAT and the ISEE are similar tests used for entrance to independent schools. Students I have tutored in the past, have successfully passed, and gained entrance to the independent school of choice.

Praxis

I received my degree in Economics, and as part of my studies many Math courses were required. I have tutored students for the Praxis previously, and the Math section of the Praxis was included in this tutoring. My quantitative skills are strong, and I have studied higher level Mathematics.

SAT Reading

I have been tutoring students for the SAT for several years. My tutoring has been done in a group setting and also I have tutored students on an individual basis.

Special Needs

I have taught in a special needs school and designed and implemented the curriculum there. I am experienced in differentiated instruction and am skilled in tapping into each student's interests.

SSAT

I have been tutoring students for SSAT test preparation for over five years.

TEAS

I have tutored students at my local community college to prepare them for The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). My Economics background has provided me with a strong quantitative background. One section of the TEAS is Math, and I am highly qualified to supply my students with the necessary Math skills to pass this test successfully. Additionally, I have also prepared my students for the Reading and Science section of the TEAS.

TOEFL

I have professionally scored the TOEIC tests, and I have also taught TOEFL to English as a Second Language students at the college level.
