I enjoy working one-on-one with people who want to improve themselves. I won't do your work for you, but I will coach you so you can do your work better and with greater confidence. Biology

I recently passed the national Praxis II exam for biology content, and was an undergraduate major in biology and geology [dual majors]. I taught Intro to Environmental Science at Johnson & Wales a while back, and spend much of my time working on grammar and writing skills for the courses I teach online in introductory business courses.

Vocabulary

If you know the meanings of more words, then you can use more word to make your conversations more precise. This should lead to people gaining better understanding of what you mean to say. People have more respect for others, when they can easily understand them. It is also important to know the differences between words that sound similar but have radically different meanings, and also to know the correct ways to use words to mean what you say.

Grammar

In my introductory college courses, I seem to spend a great deal of time "reviewing" basis English grammar. This is a real waste of time for those students, but they still need to understand the fundamentals, in order to write well. I can share the benefits of good grammar, something that I think is an exceptionally worthwhile investment of time.

Microsoft Excel

Excel is a very versatile and powerful tool for all sorts of tasks. I have been a Microsoft Registered Partner for a number of years, and often coach people to learn and better use a wide range of Excel features.

Microsoft Word

As a Microsoft Registered Partner, I have been using this outstanding tool myself for years. As a college instructor, I often see evidence that students do not understand the basics of the program, and do not realize that it is such a powerful tool, too powerful at times. There are easy ways to build templates and shortcuts, to maximize your productivity with any version of the program.

Writing

Writing is an essential skill for practically everyone today. If you already have good keyboarding skills [they used to say 'typing'], then you need to learn how to organize your thoughts in the written form. Many people do not realize that written communication should be considerably different from the written form. I can help explain the hows and whys, and make writing a more enjoyable task.

Accounting

I was deeply involved in product design and manufacturing at one company, where they trained me as corporate controller. I later championed a major systems conversion to a digital workflow by adopting new technology to integrate costing, sourcing, design, marketing, and production with our recording and reporting system. Adobe Photoshop

My experience dates to early Photoshop versions, but I now have CS5 on Windows 7, and an earlier version on MacOS. I have started with hi resolution digital photographs in color or black&white, applied color correction, & modified the images for inclusion in product catalogs. Geology

I earned a BA in biology and geology {a double major], and then earned a master's degree in geology. I worked as a research assistant while I was an undergraduate. I later became the curator of Brown University's fossil plant collection, which was on loan to the University of Pennsylvania.
