Having retired from teaching middle schoolers in the classroom, I am still very active in the education community, preparing new teachers with Rhode Island Teaching Fellows, teaching after school enrichment classes in world languages, and tutoring. As a long-time middle school teacher, I have taught and tutored students with a wide variety of learning styles and strengths, and I understand that everyone learns differently. My goal is to help students discover their strengths and use those to enhance their learning. I have a wide knowledge of learning styles and approaches to tap into each of those.

My experience, my constant contact with colleagues, and my research skills help keep me updated in new as well as time-tested methods. I have a great sense of humor and genuinely enjoy all kinds of people. I love learning together and look forward to helping you reach your goals.

Spanish

Having learned Spanish as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador many years ago, I have used my training, along with my knowledge of other romance languages, to inform all my teaching. I am currently tutoring RI high school students as well as teaching after school classes in Spanish to elementary school students. I am completely comfortable teaching through third year high school Spanish and have an excellent command of the grammar.

Writing

Over the course of twenty years I have worked with students from 5th through 12th grade helping them develop skills in creating, editing, revising and producing quality writing in every format from friendly letters to extended essays. Elementary Math

I taught social studies for 20 years in middle school. History and geography are my specialties and I have participated actively in both the National and Illinois Councils for the Social Studies, notably working to develop new standards for geography in Illinois.
