I am former Middle and High School English substitute teacher and also have a strong background in History. My love for the sharing of language extended into receiving an ESL certificate and several ESL classes that I have taught online and at a local school.

Currently, I am tutoring 2 sets of siblings in reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing. I have also tutored Japanese adults in conversational English and an adult law student from United Arab Emirates in English grammar.

My tutoring style is relaxed and personalized to the student, whether child or adult, with emphasis on their personality and their particular way of learning. American History

American History is a favorite subject and I enjoy helping people learn about the events that shaped our great country. From the colonial era all the way through current events, I can guide the way to help you learn in a way that is enjoyable.

Vocabulary

I believe increasing your vocabulary can definitely help improve your life. I can work with you to add to your current vocabulary through memorization, writing and reading. Spelling is also a natural part of vocabulary learning, so that would also be included.

Grammar

I am a stickler for correct grammar and cringe when I see things written incorrectly or misspelled. I believe using proper grammar can show what kind of person you may be. Someone who takes the time to check their grammar is someone who will be careful and thorough in many other aspects of their lives.

Reading

Reading is such an integral part of learning and I can assist you in improving your reading and comprehension skills. I am a firm believer that if you can read well then you can learn just about anything.

Writing

The written word is a passion with me and I can help you put your thoughts into words. I am a stickler for grammar, spelling and punctuation and can assist with most writing needs.

Geography

Geography is a favorite subject of mine and I can help you learn where places are and their importance in the world.

English

English was my undergraduate degree and I was certified to teach students in grades 7-12 in the state of Rhode Island. I continue tutoring English to students and can help with improving all skills related to learning English.

ESL/ESOL

I enjoy working with ESL students interested in improving their English skills. I have completed an online certificate in TESOL and am currently working on a diploma in TESOL to further my training. I am experienced in working with beginner to advanced English language learners and have the resources to help the student learn in the way most comfortable to them.

Literature

I am an English literature major and can definitely help you with your literature needs.

World History

History is a love of mine and I enjoy assisting others to better understand the events of the past and how they may relate to current events. I have completed many courses in my undergraduate degree and have an excellent understanding of World History and American History.

SAT Reading

I can assist students to prepare for the SAT Reading exam with practice tests, learning skills, and a better understanding of how the test is structured to achieve the best possible score they can.

TOEFL

As an English and ESL teacher, I am able to help you prepare to take the TOEFL exam. We will cover all 4 subjects, and focus on speaking and writing, which usually are the most difficult sections for students to master. I can help with study skills and practice exams and I have the current TOEFL iBT study guide from Barron's to help us.

If you do not use the entire package, we will simply deduct what you did spend on tutoring from your original purchase price and give you a refund. Discount packages start as low as $190.
