Hi! My name is Matt, and I'm a junior at Roger Williams University, majoring in Electrical Engineering, and minoring in Mathematics. In my spare time, I am a musician and an avid hiker. I am currently a Systems Engineer at Raytheon Space and Airborne for the summer, and plan to resume work there once the Fall semester is complete. I will graduate in May of 2014 and plan to continue working at Raytheon.
I won't lie, I wasn't always that "good" at academics, nor was I ever really "good" at mathematics until college! Throughout high school, I struggled in my math classes, as I never had a tutor or anyone to explain to me how things worked, why I was doing these things, etc. It wasn't until I came to engineering school that I had access to tutors and teachers, and I was really able to master mathematical material. My goal is to, as a part time job, tutor students who are still in secondary education, so that they may be more confident in their science and mathematics abilities, such that they won't be shied away from pursuing a undergraduate degree in science or engineering!
My undergraduate academic interests include: Control Theory, Embedded Systems,Probability Theory, and Advanced Calculus. Due to my heavy mathematics background, I am confident in my ability to teach from algebra/pre-calculus and up, as well as high school physics, AP Calc, etc.
When I tutor, I like the students to have fun and really understand the material. I make extensive examples, thoroughly explain theories, and really make sure that the student is now only understanding how, but WHY; something that is often lost in secondary education classes (I know it was for me!).
