The most valuable resource I can pass on to the next generation is a passion for learning, understanding and wisdom. Specialists are those with a narrow and focused deep field of knowledge, Generalists know a little about everything. Definitively I would fall into the latter camp.

My core skill set is one of unearthing avenues of connection between information and individuals; and between diverse groups (such as IT and Artists). I do a lot of tool development to enable efficiencies, create effective tracking, or explain processes and information. PowerPoint, Excel, Prezi, Socrative.com, TeachCast and Skype are among my most often used platforms.

I have overseas experience, having taught ESL in Japan for 4 years, and more recently have held instructor and program director roles at YTI Career Institute at both York and Mechanicsburg campuses. I am MOS certified in Excel at the Expert Level.

In my private time I have been involved in digital video production, computer graphics (Maya, Photoshop, Strata 3D), computer software human interface design, tutoring calculus, accounting spreadsheet design for my local church, teaching Bible studies, Sunday school and an occasional worship service. Currently, I am living with my wife and children in South Central Pennsylvania.

Japanese

I have lived in Japan for ten years. It was a necessity to learn the language as I was living on my own in a detached home for the first four years. It was quite the adventure. The immersion definitely accelerated my acquisition of the language. I am familiar with the kana syllabaries (katakana and hiragana) and know a few hundred kanji symbols. I would be best at conversational Japanese for getting by in daily life.

Macintosh

I have been working with Macintosh computers intensively since I purchased my PowerMac 8500 in 1998. Safari, Firefox, Mail, Desktop settings and user preferences, QuickTime Pro, Mac Office, iApps (iTunes, iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, Keynote, Numbers, Pages), Open Office, Strata 3D, Adobe Photoshop, Drag Thing, Stuffit, and many more applications. I am well versed in OS 8.0 ~ OS X (10.7).

In addition I have sat 8 hours of professional training on Mac OS X (10.2) 'Jaguar' from Mac Academy (attended lecture and lessons - not an online course). I also have set up an in-house wireless network to connect to our iPad and ethernet network over Appletalk to connect to older Macs. Our current machine is a late 2006 iMac running OS X (10.7.5).

Microsoft Access

I have designed Access databases from the ground up for external and internal clients at both JFC Staffing Companies and Book-of-the-Month Club in Mechanicsburg. These databases include SQL macros and coding as well as forms, reports, and table creation. Careful attention to planning what types of reports and information the user will need to pull out of these databases is the key to developing table structure and key fields. In addition, I have taught Access to adults in various departments at YTI Career Institute since 2011 as a part of the MS Office suite.

Microsoft Excel

I have developed advanced Excel spreadsheets for business; including VBA and macro coding for advanced functionality such as buttons and invoking email from within Excel. I have also instructed Excel at the Associate Degree level at a local career school for two years.

Prealgebra

I have taught preAlgebraic concepts at YTI Career Institute since 2011 as part of their Medical Assistant program.
