Hi, I've wanted to be a teacher ever since I can remember. I graduated from Millersville University in 1980 with a BS in English. I taught at Manheim Central for one year before deciding to start a family. I have two daughters and when they were growing up, I decided to be a stay at home mom. I've never regretted that decision. When my children got older, I decided to go back to teaching. I worked in the Red Lion School district, contracted through LIU 12, for fourteen years as an Englush as a Second Language teacher. I have worked in the South Western School District for the last two years in the same capacity. I earned my Program Specialist Certificate in ESL from Penn State University and my M.Ed from the University of Turabo in cooperation with Penn State University. I teach ESL in grades K-12, and I also have experience teaching adults. In ESL, I am qualified to teach the skills necessary for proficiency in English in reading, writing, speaking and listening. In the capacity of teaching English, I am experienced in teaching literature, grammar, reading, reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, writing and test prep. I have also been an adjunct professor at York College. While there, I taught undergraduate courses in education.
I believe in tailoring my instruction to the individual needs of my students and that not all students learn using the same methodology. I enjoy getting to knowing my students and discovering the best ways to teach and motivate them. I have high, yet realistic, expectations for my students. I believe that all students can learn and succeed when they feel comfortable to make mistakes, understand that they are capable and smart; and, if they believe in themselves, because I do!
