My name is Amy, and I am 28 years old and living in York, Pennsylvania. I am a recent graduate of York College of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with minors in both Fine Art and Special Education. I have also attained my Instructional I teaching certificate in Pennsylvania, which allows me to teach Kindergarten through 6th grade in a professional setting. For the past few years, I have been using this certificate as a Substitute Teacher in Dallastown Area School District and York Suburban School District. Within these positions, I have become highly requested for positions in Kindergarten through 2nd grade and also exclusively for the ESL teacher in two of the Dallastown Area buildings.
The growing need for English as a Second Language education inspired me to pursue my Masters in Education in ESL Instruction with a focus in Curriculum and International Education. I absolutely love the work I have been able to do in this field and the opportunities that have opened up for me due to furthering my education. I now tutor for Cactus Language Training as a Beginners' English tutor for two Swedish children that have just recently moved to the United States. After working with them since early January, their English literacy has grown enormously. Their family and teachers largely attribute this to my dedicated work with their children.
This experience challenged me with the responsibility of creating my own curriculum and materials for my twice a week lessons with the two children. I love the creativity that lesson planning and material design involves, and I welcome the challenge of designing curriculum for many instructional goals. Creativity is a large part of my life in many areas, including quilting, home decoration, collage, sewing, knitting, and music. I am a novice in many of these endeavors, but I enjoy honing my abilities and growing in my confidence.
Additionally, I am an avid yogi, and I practice yoga several times a week and volunteer at my local yoga studio. I enjoy hiking, running, biking, and swimming as well. Basically any outdoor activity is a joy for me. I believe that children should engage equally in indoor and outdoor exploration of their world. Exposure to nature at all ages is essential to development of physical and mental well being. My experience throughout childhood would not have been the same without the chance to wade through streams, catch fireflies, and watch for shooting stars.
I hope that I have portrayed myself fully and accurately so that you may make an informed decision regarding your tutoring or home care needs. Please contact me through the WyzAnt website to set up services. I can't wait to meet you!
