In 2008, I was awarded a national teaching award. PA Star Teacher of the Year. I also was awarded the first Hilda Goodling Teaching Excellence Award 2008. I believe that the key to teaching excellence lies in a simplistic analogy. I believe the ability of a child is analogous to the skin of an onion. As you peel back the layers the child’s true potential is revealed. Teaching excellence is accomplished when the key of potential is placed in one hand of the child while the teacher holds the other hand and guides the child to the door. I have been an Elementary School educator for 10 years. My career in Elementary Education includes the instruction of all core subjects. I have also instructed students in grades 6-8. I specialize in creative writing, reading, social studies, poetry, art therapy, gifted education, organizational strategies for students diagnosed with ADHD/ADD, and character education. In 2010, I earned my Master's Equivalency where my graduate coursework focused on character education, interventions for at-risk youth, and creative writing. I enjoy the outdoors and enjoy incorporating nature activities during instruction. Children respond positively to my out-of-the-box teaching methods. I recently resigned from full-time teaching in order to pursue private tutoring, creative writing publications, and nature photography.
The variety of learning experiences I have had, combined with my belief regarding the effectiveness of multiple intelligence/constructivist based teaching, have taught me the importance of approaching teaching with a reflective, insightful, and diversified pedagogy. I am a committed educator who believes that tenacity and compassion are the keys that can unlock any door.
In addition to my ten years of teaching experiences, I believe my life experiences encompass and complement my effectiveness as an educator. These include a fourteen year career in the nursing profession and twenty-three years of parenting two teenage daughters. Facilitating learning comes naturally to me. I am extremely well organized, energetic, and embrace change.
Please consider this introduction as a genuine expression of my interest and dedication in tutoring.
