I'm a bioarchaeologist (biological anthropologist + archaeologist) who works with human skeletal remains from Bolivia and Peru in South America. I have taught and assisted teaching classes for the last 12+ years, including introductory and advanced level classes in archaeology, cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, health, biology, human origins, and human osteology. My own research uses the basic concepts in biology, statistics, skeletal anatomy, and forensics. I have also written and published professional articles, and can always help with writing and proofreading assignments.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I hold an MA & PhD in Anthropology. My specialties are archaeology, forensic anthropology, and physical/biological anthropology.

Archaeology

I have 12 years of excavation and laboratory experience. I have worked with various archaeological field schools and taken a variety of archaeology courses (e.g. archaeological theory, origins of agriculture, and field methods). I have also taught classes in Intro to Anthropology, which includes intro to Archaeology, as Archaeology makes up one of the four subfields of Anthropology in the United States. My excavation experience is in both the Southeastern US and in South America. I have also helped run forensic archaeology survey teams that walked transects to help recover human skeletal remains for the Los Angeles County Coroner's office.

College Counseling

I was an Academic Advisor for Undergraduate Undeclared Majors at CSULA. I met with undergraduates on a daily basis, advised about general college requirements, and helped devise a specific course plan for each student to determine and declare a major.

In 2010-2011, I sat on the Admissions Committee to my Anthropology department at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

I am familiar with the requirements for college and graduate school, as well as being able to help with interviewing and writing.

In addition, I have worked with various undergraduates on academic advising and mentoring: UNC Office of Undergraduate Research Mentor to undergraduate Radiologic Science major on a bioarchaeological biomechanics project. During weekly meetings we developed a research project with specific goals and a reading list. I supervised methodology and data collection, graded the final research paper, and advised her on future research.

In 2010, I mentored (with D. H.) four students in an Advanced Age and Sex Estimation course. During bimonthly meetings, I helped each student with his/her research project, taught methods, supervised data collection both at UNC and at the National Museum of Natural History, reviewed the final research papers, and helped students organize presentations for the UNC Symposia: Celebration of Undergraduate Research.

Public Speaking

I have presented at numerous conferences, as well as taught many of my own classes. I can provide this information and have no problems with public speaking or helping someone else improve his/her public speaking.

Sociology

I'm a PhD in Anthropology with a background in social theory that covers sociology. I can help students with papers or dissertations on social science topics. I have also peer-tutored graduate students in sociology.
