I am a graduate of York College of Pennsylvania. While in college, I received a degree in secondary education mathematics, as well as a separate degree in mathematics, and I swam on the college swim team. I currently have my teaching certificate for the state of Pennsylvania.
As an education major I gained experience by helping out in many different classrooms, tutoring at school, helping middle school students prepare for PSSA tests, creating lessons, and teaching lessons for my college classes. I have really enjoyed all of my experiences so far and look forward to becoming a certified teacher. Out of all my experiences so far, my favorite would have to be whenever I am able to work one-on-one with a student, or with a small group of students. I like being able to really focus on what the individual student needs and give them the more individualized attention that will help them to do their best.
I completed my student teaching in a 7th grade classroom and received a 4.0 grade. Student teaching was an amazing experience that I enjoyed immensely, and I can not wait to have a classroom of my own.
As a Mathematics major I took many upper level math courses. Although they are not focused on the material that I would be teaching as a high school or middle school teacher, they have given me a great look at to possibilities of mathematics. I believe this extra experience with higher level math will really help me to be able to explain things to my students in different ways. It also gives me the ability to be able to tutor some of the higher level mathematics that I have taken.
