Thanks for taking a look at my profile. I have been in full time teaching since 2002, and have taught every grade level from 4th to 8th grade. My first three years of teaching were at Dover Intermediate School in Dover, PA, where I taught 8th grade Language Arts and 7th grade Math, and was awarded the title of a "highly qualified teacher" by the state of PA in 2005. Over the last 6 years, I have been employed by Fairfax County Public Schools, in Fairfax, VA. During my time in FCPS, I taught 1 year of 5th grade Gifted and Talented, 2 years of 4th grade Gifted and Talented, and 3 years of general 6th grade. I also was employed as an after school and Saturday school tutor for FCPS. I also received my master's degree in Education, Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology by the University of Phoenix while working in FCPS. I am certified to teach K-8th grade, and am also certified to teach secondary level math. I am very flexible in the evenings, and will work very hard with your children to provide the best education possible. I will also work very closely with the classroom teacher to ensure that what we are working on during our tutoring sessions are the same concepts being taught in the classroom. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. Have a wonderful day!
I coached at Hayfield Secondary School (VA) as the JV Head Coach.
I coached and gave lessons at Dominion Baseball Academy (VA) for their summer and fall programs.
I umpired all level from little league up through adult wooden bat leagues for 3 years.
From 2001 - 2002, I was the full time Youth Pastor at Camp Hill Church of God. While holding this position, I held weekly Sunday School classes and Bible Studies with all of the children, as well as a weekly children sermon at the beginning of each service.
While attending Messiah College from 1999 - 2002, I was required by the school to take 30 Bible credits in order to graduate. These Bible classes included historical facts about the Bible, Escatology, Discipleship, Worship, detailed studies of the Torah and Pentateuch, and the ministry and life of Jesus. I also minored in Youth Ministry while at Messiah.
In 2006, I was Certified for Ministry by Dove Christian Fellowship International. This gave me the opportunity to preach and act as a leader in any of the DCFI Family of churches.
I am the current Pastor at Oasis of Living Waters in Germantown, MD, and include a daily blog on our website on different books of the Bible.
I have a PA Elementary Teaching Instructional II Certificate K-8 with tenure, which includes that I am certified as a "highly qualified teacher" in PA.
I have a VA Elementary Teaching Certificate along with a math supplemental certificate that expires in 2015.
Recieved my Master's Degree in 2006 from the University of Phoenix in Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Technology.
Taught 3 years in Dover School District (PA) in which I taught 7th math and 8th Language Arts.
Taught 6 years in Fairfax County Public Schools (VA) in which I taught 4th and 5th Gifted and Talented, as well as General 6th grade.
I have been playing the acoustic guitar for 15 years, and have given private lessons out of my home since 2003. I have also played in several bands that have made and sold professional recordings, so I am very familiar with the time and energy it takes to work on a CD in and out of the studio. I am also very familiar with musical theory and chord progressions, so teaching strumming, picking, and musical expression and progression will also be included in each lesson.
While working in the Fairfax County Public School System for the last 6 years, we have been focusing on those students who have not been passing the standardized tests. Each team of teachers was assigned several students in their specific grade level that would benefit from understanding "how to study" as opposed to just looking at notes and materials. During this time, students met with me for math and language arts in small groups and on a one-on-one basis. During these sessions, I would go over certain concepts with the students and then ask them to pull out what they thought was the key information in the material. I would them show them what I thought was the key material, and we would discuss why and why not.
I also assisted students in their understanding of note taking. Note taking is NOT writing down the entire text in one's notebook. Instead, note taking highlights key information and leaves unnecessary information out.
Once students were finished working for the day, I would type all of the information in a database so that the entire grade level team would be able to see what I worked on with the students and how they were progressing.
