For the past 14 years I have been a Special Education teacher in the School District of Philadelphia. I have a Certificate II in Special Education and also in Middle Years English, and am also rated Highly Qualified to teach High School English, Math Science and Social Studies. I am also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and have extensive experience treating children with AD/HD, ODD, Aspergers and the broad range of Autistic Spectrum disorders. I am quite proficient using Direct Instruction techniques, to remediate reading and math delays. For the first six years of my teaching career I taught children from 11 to 14 years of age in a Middle School self contained Special Education Class. For the last six years, I have taught English, Mathematics Physical Science, Earth Science, Chemistry and Environmental Science in High School. For the past ten years I have worked as a Behavioral Specialist Consultant primarily treating children with AD/HD and Autism. I am a talented writer and editor and have worked as both an editor and writing coach.

ADD/ADHD

For the past 10 years I have been a Behavior Specialist Consultant successfully treating students with ADD/ADHD and other learning disabilities. I am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and a certified Special Education Teacher, proficient in remediating both Reading and Math delays. For the past 14 years I have worked as a Special Education teacher in the School District of Philadelphia.

Algebra 1

For a number of years I have taught algebra at the middle school and high school level. I have also taught Physical Science at the High School level. I believe I can be of great help to you.

Aspergers

I am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and for the past six years have worked primarily with children on the Autism Spectrum, ranging in age from 3 to 17 years of age. I have had good success helping children with a variety of learning and behavioral issues ranging from math and reading difficulties, to behavioral problems such as compliance and social skills issues, and poor attention.

Autism

For the past ten years I have worked after school, as a Behavior Specialist Consultant. Since March 2006 I have been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. During that time I have worked with a primarily autistic population of children ranging in age from 3 to 17. During that time I have grown proficient in improving the language and social skills of these children and reducing problem behaviors by deploying a number of interventions such as discrete trial training, contingent imitation, token economies, social skills training and other interventions.

Dyslexia

For 14 years I was a Certified Special Education teacher n the School District of Philadelphia, and developed proficiency using phonics and Direct Instruction to improve the reading skills of dyslexic and learning disabled students.

Elementary (K-6th)

For the past fourteen years I have served as a Certified Special Education teacher in the School District of Philadelphia. During that time I have gained proficiency in Direct Instruction techniques, and in presenting the elementary school curriculum, particularly reading and math, to challenged learners, I have learned to present this material, to clients of elementary school age and average intelligence in home tutoring sessions in a way that is effective and painless for the client. Students in a one-on-one tutoring situation have usually gained several years skills in less than a year, using precision teaching techniques.

Elementary Math

During my 14 years as a Certified Special Education teacher in Phila, I developed a number of programs to teach elementary Math to my students. This included individualized worksheets that took students through each step of the scope and sequence of learning both the number facts associated with each arithmetic operation as well as each process involved in becoming proficient in addition subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as the operations invol;ved in becoming proficient in using these operations on fractions and mixed numbers. My students regularly made one to two years progress each year.

English

For six years I taught High School English and have developed skill at teaching writers to become proficient at writing and editing. I am able to teach the basics of organization, generating great leads that hook a reader, to editing for flow and prosody.

Phonics

I am a Certified Special Education teacher with the School District of Philadelphia, and for the past fourteen years have specialized in teaching non-readers and low performing readers to read using phonics based Direct Instruction. I have used a number of SRA programs such as Reading Mastery and Corrective Reading to dramatically increase the reading proficiency of struggling readers and to increase their vocabulary and comprehension as well.

Prealgebra

I am a Certified teacher who is rated highly qualified to teach mathematics at the secondary level.

Reading

For fourteen years I taught Special Education in the Phila. School System. During that time I developed expertise in providing remediation for students with Math and reading difficulties.

Social Studies

I am a certified special education teacher with the school district of Philadelphia, and have been rated highly qualified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education in the content areas of social studies, mathematics, English, and science, enabling me to teach those subjects at the high school level. For six years I taught social studies daily to sixth through eighth grade students. For the past six years I have taught civics, American history and world history at the high school level.


Special Needs

I am a Certified Special Education teacher with the School District of Philadelphia, and for the past fourteen years have specialized in helping special needs students to dramatically improve their academic skills, especially those struggling with reading, writing and mathematics. I am particularly proficient using Phonics and Direct Instruction to improve the reading skills of struggling readers, and have used Dialogical reading and Guided Reading programs to significantly improve their vocabulary and comprehension. I've also used corrective math and several programs of my own to greatly improve the math skills of special needs children.
Being a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, I have over the years, worked with a number of students with AD/HD and other problem behaviors, and have developed a number of interventions to greatly reduce the effects of AD/HD, and to improve the ability of students to focus, attend and study. I have also worked with a number of children on the Autism Spectrum, to improve their academic and social skills and to reduce problem behaviors.

Writing

I am an extremely proficient writer and editor, and for the past fourteen years have been taught English and writing in both middle school and high school settings.
