For the past 14 years I have been a Special Education teacher in the School District of Philadelphia. I have a Certificate II in Special Education and also in Middle Years English, and am also rated Highly Qualified to teach High School English, Math Science and Social Studies. I am also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and have extensive experience treating children with AD/HD, ODD, Aspergers and the broad range of Autistic Spectrum disorders. I am quite proficient using Direct Instruction techniques, to remediate reading and math delays. For the first six years of my teaching career I taught children from 11 to 14 years of age in a Middle School self contained Special Education Class. For the last six years, I have taught English, Mathematics Physical Science, Earth Science, Chemistry and Environmental Science in High School. For the past ten years I have worked as a Behavioral Specialist Consultant primarily treating children with AD/HD and Autism. I am a talented writer and editor and have worked as both an editor and writing coach.

Reading

For fourteen years I taught Special Education in the Phila. School System. During that time I developed expertise in providing remediation for students with Math and reading difficulties.

Writing

I am an extremely proficient writer and editor, and for the past fourteen years have been taught English and writing in both middle school and high school settings.

English

For six years I taught High School English and have developed skill at teaching writers to become proficient at writing and editing. I am able to teach the basics of organization, generating great leads that hook a reader, to editing for flow and prosody.

Phonics

I am a certified special education teacher with the school district of Philadelphia, and have been rated highly qualified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education in the content areas of social studies, mathematics, English, and science, enabling me to teach those subjects at the high school level. For six years I taught social studies daily to sixth through eighth grade students. For the past six years I have taught civics, American history and world history at the high school level.
