I currently work for a public middle/high school in Philadelphia as a classroom assistant, while I finish up my Masters (in Alternative Education). I spend my days helping struggling students understand math, composition and science. Essentially, I am an in-school tutor for students. Not only do I assist the teacher in the classroom, I also work with students both individually and in small groups. I work with a variety of students, including those who are autistic, ADHD/ADD, or who are just struggling in one particular area. I use a variety of teaching methods to help students grasp the different concepts, based upon a student's preferred learning style (visual, auditory, tactile, etc.).

Prior to my work at this school, I ran the tutoring center at Lock Haven University - Clearfield Campus. In addition to my duties as the coordinator, I tutored college math (algebra & geometry) and writing. I have been working with youth for 15 years, at a variety of camps, youth leadership organizations and schools. I am experienced at helping students to engage in learning, managing negative behavior and reinforcing positive behavior.

My bachelors degree is in writing. Prior to selecting that major I was enrolled for 2 years as an engineering major (with a 3.8 GPA). I completed high level math classes up to Calculus 2. I spend most of my days now teaching 8th & 9th graders math. I enjoy math and I enjoy teaching, and nothing is more satisfying to me than helping a student to succeed.

Much of my experience is with middle school and high school aged youth, but I am available to teach elementary school and/or adults as well. I am interested in tutoring math, up to Algebra 1, and writing/composition up to the 12th grade level.

Since I currently work for a school I have completed the three required background checks: Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check (Act 34), the Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151) and the Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) in a manner prescribed by the Department of Education.

Lastly, I am allergic to cats, so if you own any I won't be able to tutor at your house. We could meet at a public location, such as a library.
