My name is Alexander, but please call me Alex. I am 39 years old. I was born in the Soviet Union in 1973, and had been living in the United States since 1987. I served in the United States Army for seven years, in the 1990s. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Maryland, Master of Arts Degree in History from West Chester University, Master of Arts Degree in the Holocaust and Genocide Studies from West Chester University, a Master of Education Degree from Temple University, and a certificate in paralegal studies from the PJA school. I am fluent in Russian (native language) and English. I worked as a camp counselor at the YMCA in the summer of 2008, taught elementary school children to improve their reading skills from November 2008 to February 2009, taught English as a Second Language to the Russian immigrants in 2010, taught Social Studies at West Philadelphia High School, substituted for various schools, and am currently teaching English, and recently taught Russian, at the Berlitz Language Center in Philadelphia. I have a roommate who is mentally disabled; I lived with him for more than three years, and taught him skills that are helpful in life. As a tutor, I will show every bit of dedication to my students and will help them acquire new skills. All of my students had been very happy with me. A number of references from my professors and former employers are available.
I am a certified Social Studies teacher and have three Master's Degrees, in History, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and Education. Although I never took ACT, I possess the reading and writing skills that are good enough to pass it. So if you are taking the ACT exam and need tutoring, I can certainly help you!
As a certified teacher, I had to take a PRAXIS exam, which included a mathematics part, including Algebra. I took it in 2007 and nearly maxed the math part. So if you need help improving your math skills, I am your man!
I spent 8 years in the United States Army, 1 year in the Reserves and 7 years active. I took the ASVAB test twice, in order to join the Army. My score was 80%, which was enough to enter any job in the Army. I remember this test like I took it yesterday, and can definitely help students improve their ASVAB scores.
I had been playing chess for over twenty years, and I play the game almost every day on my computer. Although I am not a chess grand master, I do know how to play the game and I play it well. I can teach students how to play chess and improve their game.
As a certified teacher, I had to take a PRAXIS exam, in English and mathematics. I scored very high on the math part. This was in 2007, not that long ago. I scored very high on the math part(nearly maxed it), and I still possess good math skills. So if you need help with math, I am your man!
I have three Master's Degrees: in History, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and Education. One cannot get this far in their education without having good English reading, writing, and research skills. So if you need help improving in these areas, I will be more than happy to help you!
I taught ESL for most of the year 2010 to elderly immigrants. I can be a good ESL teacher. I myself am bilingual (my first language is Russian) and I know how difficult it is to learn another language. Because I learned English as a second language, I know very well how to teach it. I know how to teach English grammar (very important when you want to learn a new language), pronunciation (also important, if one wants to be understood by native English speakers) and vocabulary. When I taught ESL to elderly immigrants, they were very happy with me and thought that I was a good teacher. I think that any ESL students whom I will teach in the future will be happy with me as well.
I have been using Microsoft Word since 1996, and I am very good at it. I used it all the time in school (I have three Master's Degrees) and at work. I know the program very well and can certainly teach others how to use it. In addition, I can teach other Microsoft Office programs, such as Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. If you need help with these programs, I will be more than happy to help you.
As a certified teacher, I had to take a PRAXIS I exam. I scored very well on it, especially the math part, which included algebra and geometry. I can help anyone with Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, and Basic Math. So if you need a math tutor for yourself or your children, I am your man!
Russian is my first language; I spoke it since I can remember myself. Even since I had been living in the United States, I continued to speak Russian with my parents, relatives, and friends. While in the US Army, I took a language identifier test in Russian, and passed it. I then sent my scores to the University of Maryland, and it translated my scores into 7 college credits! Since I speak both English and Russian very well, I can definitely teach students Russian.
