Teaching needs to be based on best-teaching practices, but it also must include a real appreciation and respect for the relationship that develops between the student and facilitator (teacher). With over 15 years of experience working with children in traditional and non-traditional settings I am able to combine both of these skills!

My many years of working with a variety of age groups and needs means that I bring to the relationship a depth of knowledge and the wisdom to continue to learn as a teacher which is why I am actively engaged in continuing education even today! So, I encourage you to speak to me directly so that we can develop a plan specific to you (or your child's) needs.

Elementary (K-6th)

My experience includes working with kindergarten through 6th grades often in a multi-age setting. This experience has helped me to develop a greater understanding of the many needs of this age and developmental range. I will help your child find expression through his or her strengths.

Phonics

I have completed and taught the Wilson Just Words program with great success to six students with a variety of learning needs. The multi-sensory and scientically proven content of this program makes it a joy to teach and has show me that it can be successful. What I bring to this scientifically proven program is the ability to connect with each student and make the pathway accessible.

Study Skills

The students that I worked with in a private middle school/high school in Chester County, PA all had unique learning needs. These needs translated very specifically in developing study skills that supported their independent work and homework. I consider study skills an integral part of educational and lifelong success. When working with your student I will consider their strengths and create a plan to build and support the areas of concern.

Special Needs

I am currently certified in Pennsylvania in Special Education. I have worked with students with learning differences for the majority of my career and have always been and will be tireless in finding ways to support each child's unique needs.

Business

My undergraduate degree from Penn State is in economics. I have 12 years experience running a family-owned business. In addition, I have obtained my PA teaching certification in business and computer technology.

Public Speaking

For over 15 years I have been a professional storyteller in such places as museums, libraries, schools and other venues. In addition I have presented teacher trainings on storytelling, best practices, religious education and more. Community theater rounds out my experience "in front of a crowd."

ADD/ADHD

I have worked for 4 years with children and youth from ages 9 to 19 with ADD/ADHD helping them to find the study and life skills to be productive in their educational pursuits.

I have been conditionally accepted for a Ph.D. program in educational psychology with goal of learning and exploring even more ways in which to best support this learning difference.

After meeting with you and your student we can, together, develop a plan!

Dyslexia

As a special education teacher in a private and public school setting, I worked with students with reading needs. I completed the Wilson Just Words Training in order to support my work with students with specific learning differences. In addition, I have collected, read and used many reference materials related to dyslexia. I have worked, successfully, with students in the elementary and middle school levels with specific learning differences.

Marketing

I currently teach marketing and sports and entertainment marketing at a Pennsylvania public high school. I am certified in PA as a business and computer technology teacher.
