I'm a college student trying to spread what I know to those willing to listen. I've always tried to pay attention in school, but sometimes my mind wandered away from the lessons. I would occasionally fall behind and scramble to catch up. Today I've worked through those kinks, but wish I had used a tutoring service earlier in my school career. Now I have a chance to reach out where I hadn't when I was younger. I have a lot to offer to students willing to give tutoring a shot.
Being a psychology major has provided me with insight into how people think and interact with others. I feel I can use this insight to better connect with and teach my students the information necessary, and perhaps even a little further if I can manage to spark a true interest in the subject. I'm no higher level teacher, but when it comes to the basics, I feel I can provide something better than memorization: true understanding.
I'm prepared to either work through a textbook, or create my own lesson structures. My plan is to break down each key point and, through analogies, syllogism, and examples, teach understanding as opposed to memorization. I feel that cold memorizing only helps in the present and the information is lost as soon as the next lesson is taught. With understanding comes application, and this combination is important for maintaining the knowledge long after it is taught.
I'm very flexible with tutoring hours and prepared to take time to review information prior to tutoring to ensure my teachability on subject matter. I am capable of teaching multiple subjects and passionate about helping others.
I appreciate your consideration and hope to help you out in the future months.
