I'm a talented teacher with ten years of experience in education at different levels, ranging from early intervention to teaching high school music. I have spent the majority of my time working with middle school students in all core subjects and working with students who have special needs. I have my degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education, with minors in Music and Literacy, and I'm pursuing my masters in Reading Education. I have my Pennsylvania certification in English. I'm passionate about language, literature, reading, and writing. I have worked in multiple Middle School English and Language Arts classrooms over the years, recently earning the Educator 500 with co-teachers for the project Poetry with Heart.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my PA certification in Elementary Education K-6 and have spent three of the last four years working with 6th grade students. I have had many experiences teaching elementary curriculum and elementary aged students.

Music History

I have a minor in music from the well-known West Chester University College of Music. I have taught music for four years at the Westtown School, adjunct faculty, Dept. of Applied Music, mainly in the instrumental capacity, but also in theory and history. My study of music history ranges from the modern to the pre-Baroque, when music was mainly for religious uses of song and chant. I have a minor in literacy and am currently pursuing my Masters in Reading with a Reading Specialist Certification. I have taken many courses on phonics, phonemic awareness, word study, and am familiar with Project Read, Read Naturally, Reading Assist, Benchmarking, etc. I have taught phonics directed reading instruction in small groups for three years in previous jobs, and I have also been an assistant teacher at the Benchmark School, which is known for its strong phonetic approach to reading.

I have been a learning support teacher for the past four years, during which I taught an organizational and study skills/ homework/ test prep class every day for three of those years.

I trained with Molly Renninger Rumsey, and performed with the Immaculata Symphony Orchestra and the West Chester University Symphony Orchestra, as well as worked as a soloist and chamber musician. I taught music for four years at the Westtown School, Department of Applied Music, adjunct faculty, and maintained a private studio in my home for 10 years.

Praxis

I have taken and passed all the praxis exams required to become a certified Pennsylvania teacher, including the general math and reading, the principles of learning and teaching, the elementary education series, the special education series, English, and History. I have been given the ETS Certificate of Excellence on Principles of Learning and Teaching Exam.

Social Studies

I love social studies, history, geography, and citizenship education. I have co-taught world history and ancient civilizations for three years, as well as United States history. I currently have my Social Studies Certification for the state of Pennsylvania.
