Throughout my teaching and tutoring career, I have worked with students of all ages (from preschool to college-aged). I currently teach high school English (grades 11 and 12).

I enjoy working with students who are yearning to write better, whether it be for one essay (especially the college application essay) or for a challenging English course.

If you are looking for someone to offer personalized SAT prep, I will review previous tests from PSAT and work on specific areas that your student needs. I believe that discussing how students think about questions in a one-on-one environment is the key to improving test-taking strategies and identifying areas to improve.

In addition to being in my sixth year of teaching, I have spent the same amount of time creating and running after school SAT prep courses. I enjoy editing college application essays and have great success in helping students get into the schools they want.

I have experience teaching 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. If you need reading and writing tutoring, I am able to look at the big picture and identify writing goals as well as make sure a student is prepared for future schooling.

Literature

I have experience teaching major texts from the canon. From American classics like The Great Gatsby to old British favorites like Beowulf, I am well-read and have spent many years becoming familiar with texts that are commonly taught in schools.

Proofreading

As a young journalism student I spent years working as an editorial assistant. Since then, I have spent each fall examining student essays to help seniors improve word choice, grammar, and overall style in writing.

SAT Reading

Each student is different when it comes to the reading test; luckily, the test is predictable. I will work to evaluate current strategies and trouble areas and formulate the best plan for reading sections for test day. We will also build on vocabulary during every session.

SAT Writing

From mini-grammar lessons to reading and evaluating essays, I will help your student gain confidence on the writing section. This school year marks my 6th year tutoring students in SAT writing.

Study Skills

I have experience working with students from K-college in academic and test areas. I worked at Huntington Learning Center and monitored student progress as they worked on homework, offering enrichment and activities for students to continue to grow academically.

I have also worked in a Boys and Girls Club after school program where I assisted students in organizing their assignments, managing their time, and making study guides for themselves.
