I am a Board Certified special education advocate. I facilitate the identification of unique educational needs & the development of individualized goals, services & programs, for an educational plan, necessary to achieve documented meaningful benefit and progress.
This is done by:
1) a formal review of educational and clinical documentation to identify
strengths and educationally based needs,
2) meeting with parents to obtain additional information and, if necessary,
refer for appropriate evaluations either through the school district or
3) attendance at IEP meetings with parents to facilitate development of an
appropriate individualized educational plan (IEP) and to assist parents
with procedural issues and navigation through the process,
4) assure that parents have a voice, act as a liaison and assist in ongoing
5) monitor IEP compliance and student progress,
6) assist in manifestation determination meetings, filing department of
education complaints and parent's attorney in due process.
Teaching English as a Second Language to adults and children. Organized curriculum to teach phonics, decoding and language arts as well as history and current events to students. Prepared many students for the ACT and TOEFL, which they have all passed and continued to either higher education or the job market.
As a Speech and Language Therapist teaching phonics is part of the curriculum of articulation therapy. Auditory discrimination is a neurological process that is needed to have success in phonics. A speech and language therapist is the professional to teach those skills.
As a speech and language therapist I have been teaching reading and language skills to children for more than 30 years. My goals for each student are individual depending on their specific needs and learning differences. I follow the core curriculum standards for reading and ensuring that each of the principles of reading are reinforced and the child has mastered the skill levels needed.
I am a certified speech and language therapist. I have a Master's degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
I have worked with many different types of children with varying disorders, articulation, cerebral palsy, aphasia, hearing impaired, mental retardation, and various learning disabilities that may affect a child's speech and language growth.
I have also worked extensively with adults and participated in the National Stroke Project run by the National Institutions of Health. I work with adults Parkinson's patients and adults with significant head trauma.
Being a special education consultant, I am very knowledgeable in many of the techniques and software to aid students with learning differences how to improve their study skills and prepare them with scaffolding, Cornell notes, word banks to achieve in school.
