Hi! My name is Jamillia (Jah-Mill-Lee-ah). I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in Urban Studies in 2010 and subsequently from Chestnut Hill College with a Masters in Elementary Education in 2013. I am dual certified: In Pennsylvania I have an Instructional I K-6 Certification. Additionally, I recently completed my ESL Certification with the International TEFL Academy. I hope to teach ESL aboard this summer.
I have two years of in classroom teaching experience in a Philadelphia Charter School (grades 1 and 5). There, I taught Literacy, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Leadership. I also coordinated the school wide poetry slam for two years, so if you are interested in help with your poems I can provide that as well. I have prepared students for the Keystone, PSSA, Dibles, Four Sight, and Acuity Tests. As a positive and engaging educator, I connect concepts to real world experiences in order to help my students grasp the material. After all, if there is no "point" of learning the material, you are far less likely to master it. I treat each student individually and cater my instruction to his or her learning style. Great meeting times for me are between 6:30-8pm during the week and flexible on the weekends. I look forward to working with you!
