I am a graduate of Gettysburg College and a soon to be graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine. I received my BA from Gettysburg College in Health Sciences and I will be receiving my Masters of Science from Drexel University College of Medicine in May 2012. I have worked with Big Brothers/Big Sisters as a volunteer who worked with elementary school children to assist them with homework and provide socialization activities. I have also worked as a tutor for high school students.
I understand that all children learn differently so my tutoring methods change depending upon the need of the child. Regardless of the preferred learning style of the child I do find it useful to use examples that pertain to, or interest the child. This is because I have found that children are more engaged and more willing to try if they are interested in what they are learning. Through my previous experience working as a tutor, I have come across many students who just want the answer to be given to them and not have to work through the problems; i am NOT this type of tutor. I honestly believe that doing that is a waste of my time, your child's time, and your money as well since they will not learn the skills to do well on exams and therefore their grades will not improve.
