Back in high school, I was that kid that everyone would go to during study hall and ask for help with some problem on the math homework or on other assignments. Math is my preferred subject for tutoring, and even though I'm not studying it in college, I've always enjoyed it and have been pretty capable with it, and I can remember just about anything I've studied pretty readily if I have a few minutes to look over it and recall everything.
I've never actually worked as a professional tutor, but as class valedictorian, I ended up doing a decent amount of tutoring in various subjects back in high school, and even in college, my classmates will sometimes come to me for help before seeing a professor or any of the student tutors the university makes available.
When offering academic assistance, I attempt to be as thorough as possible in my explanations, doing my best to ensure that the people I help will not just have the correct answer for a particular problem, but will be able to sufficiently deal on their own with any similar problems in the future.
