Hi, I took a Creative Writing class in college, so this is right up my alley. I think I have wanted to be a teacher for most of my life. My first teaching experience came about when I was in the eighth grade when my Gym teacher asked me to teach the "hustle" to a group of students that had various learning and physical disabilities. As an adult, I have taught Vacation Bible School programs to Pre-K, 1st and 2nd graders at my church and taught the Catechism program to 5th graders for five years. I loved it! It was so rewarding that I decided to make it a career.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Communications, a PA. Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education (7-12) that concentrates in Communications/Theatre, and am currently looking to apply to a Master's program in Communication Studies and/or Theatre. In the 2010-2011 school year, I was a Master Teacher of English, Writing, Literature, Language Arts, and Film/Media, where I prepared and taught 133 students on the College Preparatory and Honors levels. I really enjoyed my time teaching high school students.
I believe in student-centered learning where the teacher is the guiding force or facilitator of the lesson. My philosophy or pedagogy, if you will, of teaching is to get the students to realize their highest potential and help them achieve academic excellence. In doing so, they go on to becoming intelligent, skilled, well-educated adults that can contribute to society as a whole. Thank you for taking the time to read my response and I hope you will consider me as a potential tutor. Oh, by the way, I am a fun teacher, or so my former students have told me in the past.
