Hello! My name is Maggie.

I have a Bachelor's degree in English with a minor in sociology, and I'm working on my MEd in secondary education, English.

For the last two years, I have worked as reading and writing tutor at a community college. I am a firm believer that being able to effectively communicate in "Standard English" through reading and writing is an essential skill for success in all areas of education, as well as in the professional world.

Learning a second language, or even a second dialect, can be very difficult, especially for students who struggle with reading and writing in their native language. A majority of the students with whom I've worked have been students working toward bilingualism, and I have seen all of them make progress. It is my belief that all children and adults are capable of success in reading and writing as long as they possess determination and confidence in their abilities, as well as the ability to ask for help and use the resources that are available to them.

My tutoring methods will vary based on the needs of each student, but I require that all students come to me with a clear idea of their needs and expectations for each tutoring session. Completed work or an outline of areas to work on are essential, and input and suggestions from teachers is always welcomed.

One thing must be clear: it is not my job to make you or your child succeed; it is my job to provide tools and methods that, with hard work, can aid in mastering concepts with which students struggle. It is your or your child's responsibility to utilize the tools that I provide in order to earn success.

I look forward to meeting and working with you!
