Thanks for your interest in my tutoring services. I am most qualified to tutor students writing for college because of my four years tutoring at the Kutztown University Writing Center (KUWC), my BA in English/Professional Writing, and my master’s work in English that will conclude this spring.
While working toward my BA in English/Professional Writing, I tutored a few hours a week at the KUWC after realizing through in-class peer review that I could teach writing easily to peers. By the time I graduated in December 2010, it had become clear that I have an innate ability to teach writing. I decided to pursue master’s work within Kutztown University’s English department to strengthen this ability.
I entered the MA in English program in December 2011 and earned a graduate assistant tutor and manager position at the KUWC. With 20 hours a week of one-on-one tutoring at the KUWC combined with coursework, my experiences as a graduate student at Kutztown University have transformed my innate abilities for teaching college-level writing into a confident proficiency. I will graduate spring 2013 and have so far earned a 4.0 GPA in my graduate studies. I plan to pursue PhD work so that I can teach writing as a professor at the university level.
Though I can teach college students at any level and in any subject that requires writing, I would also like to gain experience teaching students preparing for college. I’m confident that I can tutor students in more advanced high school English classes like honors and AP courses (and less certain that I can tutor students learning the basics). I can help with college entrance essays as well, decoding prompts provided by colleges, for example, or teaching the general rules of formal language that colleges tend to seek.
I am excited to pursue professional tutoring work outside of the university and thank you for considering my services. I look forward to hearing from you.
