I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2010 with a Bachelor's in chemical engineering. I've worked both as a mechanical engineer for one of the country's nuclear power laboratories and as a teacher assistant in two school districts in Upstate New York.
Before tutoring for WyzAnt, I tutored about 150 hours of math, science, and engineering before, but it was all volunteer and unpaid. I also currently work as an academic and SAT tutor for StudyPoint.
When I was in college, I was the editor of a biweekly magazine for two years: because I went to an engineering school, many of my writers didn't have some of the basics down. So, before every issue, I would work one-on-one with each of my writers to introduce them to new writing techniques and work to rewrite their articles to prepare for print.
I'm generally a math and writing nerd. When I teach, I find it most important to
-Give perspective about the field of study we're covering. Where does this fit in to other subjects you've taken before? What will this course not include?
-Provide a thorough understanding of basic concepts. If you understand the foundations of a subject very well, you can keep your head in a reasonable place when things get complicated.
-Work on the same level as my students. As you work on a problem set, I will work through the same thing. I will never quote a solution that I can't explain thoroughly.
I live in Plymouth Meeting, PA. I like to write in my free time: I write comedy sketches and scripts. Also, during the day, I stay at home with my two young daughters.
I received a Bachelor's in chemical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2010. During that time, I tutored other chemical engineering students in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and process control.
