Currently, I am a Master's of Entertainment Industry Management candidate at Carnegie Mellon University, class of 2016.
I have my B.A. in Theatre Arts/Theatre Performance from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. My background also includes 12 years of dance training (Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Social Dance/Ballroom), and top interview and public speaking skills through Dale Carnegie and my experience in the Miss America Pageant system.
If there's one other thing you need to know about me, it's that I love to teach! I have been looking for a way to share my gifts and experience with others. Learning and teaching take patience, discipline, determination, trust, and a positive attitude. Let's work together soon!!
"The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you." -B.B. King
I have been dancing since I was eight years old. My first years of training were in ballet, jazz, and tap, training for up to four hours a day, five days a week after school. I received most of my training from Diana Evans School of Dance in Lexington, KY, where I was a member of the Diana Evans Dance Company from age 11 to age 18. Also, from age 16-18, I was hired as Diana Evans' personal teacher's assistant for her intermediate ballet, jazz, and tap classes (ages 11-14) and was given two ballet and tap classes of my own to teach (ages 2-5).
Continuing my training when I moved to New York City, I attended class at both the Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway. I have the experience, training, passion, and confidence to share my knowledge with my students.
My training in ballroom dance started in my college years in New York City. I took a full course in ballroom dance, learning all of the basics in fox trot, the waltz, cha-cha, tango, swing, rumba, and all of the traditional social dances. This course not only included learning each style of dance, but also its history. The best way to learn to dance is not only knowing the steps, but also where the dance came from.
My experience in teaching ballroom is teaching my boyfriend with two left feet. I've been working with him for two hours once a week for a month now, and he can now foxtrot, waltz, and knows the basics of swing dance.
I am qualified to tutor in proofreading. Along with passing the test on the WyzAnt website, I pride myself in extreme attention to detail. I am sure to go over writing two or three times to make sure everything is perfect. I will tutor my students to do the same.
I am more than qualified to tutor in public speaking. Between excelling in the course in college, I also have interview and public speaking training from the Dale Carnegie course. Another experience that would more than qualify me for tutoring in public speaking would be having competed in the Miss America Pageant system.
I am qualified to tutor in Theatre because I have my Bachelors in Theatre Arts/Theatre Performance from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. Although my concentration is in performance, I have a well rounded knowledge of the theatre world and the industry. My second favorite area in theatre is history, particularly early 20th century theatre in America. Not only do I have an academic background, I also have practical experience, having worked as a professional actor in New York City for the past four years.
