I am a licensed foreign language teacher with many years of experience working with all different age groups, from Pre-K Four through 11th and 12th grade International Baccalaureate. I have spent half of my teaching career working in American Embassy-sponsored international schools: Spain, Peru, Taiwan, Czech Republic. The other half was spent in rigorous suburban-Chicago school districts.
I have taught many children and young people who would be described as "high flyers"--students who had a talent for language and an eagerness to learn more than that offered by the school system. I have also worked with students who have had difficulty with the challenges foreign language courses can present.
I believe I am very good as discerning what methodologies work best for a given student, and I am creative in devising ways to get the material across to the learner. Because of my broad range of teaching experiences, I am able to tailor the tutoring lesson to the needs and the goals of each individual student.
One of my primary goals is teaching the student to think. From that comes confidence and a willingness to take risks--an absolutely essential aspect of communication in another language.
