I have been tutoring for several years and I have learned a great deal about how to maximize my effectiveness as an educator and how to both stimulate the student's interest in their success and gain confidence in his or her intellectual abilities. I am a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and currently finishing graduate degrees in both psychology and physics. My education has helped me structure my approach as a tutor in that I am different from just a "homework helper." I build relationships with my students and inspire them to do their best by boosting the confidence of each student because academic success ultimately hinges on the student's self confidence.
I work with my students to discover their strengths and weaknesses as well as how they learn best. I use a combination of technology, "real-life" applications of concepts, and student driven lesson planning. This allows each student to have some control in how their sessions will be structured so each session they have to opportunity to be taught in a manner that works best for them - it truly makes a huge difference in their performance. We all know that everyone learns differently, but by working 1-on-1 and taking the time to get to know each student, I can effectively teach each concept differently with each student according to how he or she learns best.

I tutor most of my students from my home or office (both located in Mt. Lebanon). Occasionally I will travel to a student's home under certain circumstances.
I have expertise in both the educational and practical levels. I have an undergraduate degree in business administration from Carnegie Mellon University and I have started and currently run my own business so I have experience from the planning stages all the way through the day-to-day execution of accounting, marketing, and customer relations.
The admissions process is constantly changing and while many students think a high GPA and good SAT scores are enough, the complete application and essays (along with the interview) carry a huge amount of weight in the admissions environment today. I work with students and parents to choose a school where the student will excel in a program that is both practical and enjoyable.
I work almost exclusively with students that are qualified and desire to attend top-tier universities. I stay very informed about the processes, trends of these schools because gaining admission is largely dependent on having someone who knows the details of the admission processes that elite universities use when making their decisions.
As a graduate (and current employee) of Carnegie Mellon University, I have a diverse social network to help answer any questions during the application process. I also work intensely on helping the student craft a creative application that allows them to stand out. This includes extensive work on essay writing and interview prep.
I took several college courses dealing with the unique logical, graphical, and algebraic situations that one must deal with when working with discrete quantities.
