I will travel to you! I welcome the opportunity to reach out to those with different needs, as I come from an empathetic, creative, tech-savvy family.

Professionally, I have experience in graphic design and photography studios, ranging from production artist and photographer to management and customer service. My degree is a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Phoenix.

I have experience working with Macintosh/Apple since 2003, Photoshop since 2000, PC/Windows since 1992. Specialties include: Mac and PC proficiency; Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop; Camera Raw; Bridge; Lightroom; Illustrator; InDesign); digital photography; cameras; studio equipment; photo editing; image optimization; portrait and large format printing; color theory; graphic design; advertising; layout; composition; computer and printer setup; organizational effectiveness; workflow solutions.

I have been tutoring these subjects since 2009 and have been with WyzAnt since 2012. Before that, I was teaching my co-workers tips and tricks. I am a friendly, thorough, balanced left/right brain and I believe that is a great benefit to my students.

Given the subjects of my expertise, each lesson is completely custom. Beforehand, I will ask you about your knowledge base and what technology you are using so we can reach an understanding about your starting point. At the end of each lesson, we set goals for the next. In between, I welcome any follow up questions about previous lesson content. Sometimes with technology there are hiccups for any number of reasons, so I respond the best I can before we meet again.

My approach to tutoring is a mixture of understanding concepts and hands-on practice while using your equipment. Everyone has different machines, versions, and workspace features enabled. Your setup is what works for you and how you are used to interacting with content. Using your everyday setup keeps things consistent and is the best way for you to learn.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

If my friends or co-workers had Photoshop questions or needed something, they would come to me with confidence. I have worked with Photoshop since 2000 on both Macintosh and PC computers. I also have Lightroom experience and teach the connection with Photoshop.

My Photoshop specialty is digital editing. I can teach you how to enhance your photography using retouching tools, corrections to color and tone, special effects, crop, and optimization for final output. I can teach you how to record actions and processing scripts to add speed to your workflow. I can teach you the text, painting, and drawing tools, and also how to make interesting compositions using layered elements for your graphic design needs.

My degree is a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Phoenix and I have worked in professional studios for design and photography (on the production end) for more than 5 years.

Photoshop is really fun!

Macintosh

I have experience working with Macintosh/Apple since 2003 and PC/Windows since 1992, so I am versed in teaching someone how to make the switch. I have used OS Tiger through Mountain Lion.

I have experience tutoring students using Apple products since 2009. I can teach you how "System Preferences" and "Finder" on a Macintosh relate to "Control Panel" and "Start Menu" on a PC. I can teach basics in software like iTunes, iPhoto, iCal, Mail, Pages, Time Machine, etc.

I have been an Apple and Adobe owner since 2003 and used MAC about 90% of the time at the Art Institute--where I got my degree in Graphic Design. Professionally, I have experience in graphic design and photography studios.

Specialties include: Mac and PC proficiency, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Camera Raw, Bridge, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat), digital photography, photo editing, image optimization, portrait and large format printing, color theory, graphic design, advertising, layout, composition, computer and printer setup, organizational effectiveness, and workflow solutions.

Once you go Mac, you never go back!

Photography

My experience in photography has been primarily digital SLR cameras, studio lighting & equipment set up, on-location lighting & equipment set up, posing subjects, working with clients, and assisting other photographers. My greatest strength is production, from raw camera file, to retouching/editing, to printed photo in a frame.

Professionally, I worked for two photography studios, and I have freelanced in this field. I also have experience training others. Typical clients I worked with were business professionals, families & babies, high school seniors, schools, dances, sports, weddings--even commercial, product, and scenic shots.

My bachelor's degree is in graphic design from the Art Institute.

A Fabulous Tutoring Experience — Alyssa is an amazing tutor. I hired her to help me better learn Adobe Lightroom and to help me set up a system for archiving my photos using this software. First off, she is incredibly responsive, and answered all of my emails quickly and thoroughly. Prior to our first session, Alyssa scheduled a phone call with me so that she knew exactly what I wanted to learn and what my learning style was so s ...
