Ben is an incredibly knowledgeable and effective tutor. His deep understanding of core concepts in Physics allows him to break down even the toughest problem into a manageable solution. After a few lessons with Ben, he is able to analyze your weak points and works with your learning style to develop a successful approach. Ben's help enabled me to ace both Physics 1 and 2 in a very compressed time frame.
I met with Ben for my Calculus 2 course (considered to be one of the harder courses at my university). Very flexible in terms of setting up times to meet up and have a session, responds quickly to email, patient if you find yourself struggling with a topic. Makes sure you understand the basics behind the material. Will walk you through problems without solving them for you, and will give you the necessary tools to later on solve problems by yourself.
What struck me was he would go the extra mile if there was a problem or concept you couldn't figure out during the session, and would later email you an explanation (usually within a day). HE's very knowledgeable but isn't afraid to admit that he's made a mistake or wrong about a concept or a problem. In conclusion, he helped me go from near failing one of my university's hardest courses to passing it. I would definitely recommend.
I started working with Ben for a sprint finish of a difficult, engineering-geared undergrad calculus course (last 1/4 of the class). He was very quick to respond, and even though he had a busy schedule, he quickly found time to fit me in. I am not a quantitatively oriented guy - I haven't had a math class in years, but needed it for a grad program I'm starting. I explained to Ben what my learning needs and expectations for the outcome of the course were, and he quickly set about ensuring I met my goals.
At first, I was a bit embarrassed about my quant skills (or really, lack thereof), but he quickly put my anxiety at ease and I became comfortable saying, "I don't follow." This then made it immediately clear that Ben is very skilled at explaining conceptually difficult material, as well as how that material tied in to the rest of the course. Ben was skilled at getting me to the "Ah-Ha" moments. He would make sure I understood the information and wasn't just nodding along in agreement, and he was always happy to find a different way of explaining a concept if necessary.
He knew how to tutor most effectively depending on the material and situation. For example, he had a great sense of what material I needed a deeper understanding of, but he was also comfortable telling me what information I should just memorize and move on with if the concept wasn't important (recall, I told him I was short on time). Though I hope I don't have any more difficult quant classes that require a tutor, I would absolutely give Ben a call if I needed one. He's a polite, funny, and thorough guy who is dedicated to making sure you get the information you need.
Ben has been my tutor for the past month and a half and I have nothing but great remarks about him. He has helped me dramatically increase my physics test score grades from the first to the second exam. Not only does he know the material at an expert level, he has the ability that very few people have, and that is to convey the information in a way that anyone could understand and conceptualize what he is talking about. Ben has allowed me to become more confident in what I know and presents a calming personality if I do not know a topic rather than getting disappointed or say harsh words to me. If you are lucky enough to ask him to tutor you and he is not drowning in his studies or research, do not hesitate to hire him; he's both friendly and professional. A note about the above statement: although he is working on his research and takes classes for a graduate level degree, he is very accessible and I never have a hard time fitting one session in a week (sometimes 2 a week); you just have to be a little flexible and figure out times that work for both of you.
Benjamin worked hard helping my son prepare for finals. He was always on time and has a very calming personality. He really wanted my son to do well and it paid off, my son got a B in his class due to the effort of Ben.
Overall, good tutor. He did go on facebook during the lesson and he at times showed his frustration at the student. Overall, the lesson was good.
Hemanth was perhaps one of the brightest students I've worked with recently; I can hardly imagine what he might have interpreted as frustration. As for setting up the initial lessons with Hemanth's Mother, I did express frustration with her poor email etiquette, as it took several exchanges to get the most basic information to set up a tutoring session. Perhaps this is what the review refers to. Regarding Facebook: I'm not sure what you are referring to. A quick check shows that I didn't access FB at any point during the entire day for two of our lessons. Are you referring to the lesson where I was kept waiting for 10 min in the den while Hemanth finished his shower, because he forgot his schedule? If you have any constructive, or at least accurate criticism that could help me go from 'good' to 'great' I'd love to hear it! All the best.
He helped me to draw a picture of the concept I needed to know. Answers emails in a very timely manner.
Ben is one of the best tutors that my daughter has experienced for Physics and Calculus to date. She connected with him instantly with his calm and clear teaching abilities. She has brought her grade up significantly and has gained her confidence back with these AP subjects with Ben's help. I highly recommend him to any student.
Ben is a great tutor. I am a graduate student going for my MBA, and I needed to find a tutor for my Managerial Statistics class. Because this is a graduate level class, I found it was hard to find a qualified tutor who could help me at this level. Ben has made it easy for me to grasp the concepts and apply them in my class. I am half way through this course, and I currently have an A thanks to Ben. He is very knowledgeable in mathematics at a very high level. If you need a tutor in advanced math, he is your guy.
