I have worked with various populations in differing capacities. My most recent tutoring venue was with Lincoln University where I taught remedial writing to college students. Most of these young adults needed basic grammar and could neither read nor write above a fourth grade level. During that time I presented "mini-lessons" on grammar, worked with individual learners on their essays, and prepared materials for lessons in grammar and in African-American History.
From the spring of 1989 through the summer of 1991 I worked for two Literacy Volunteers of America programs. I served first as Student Coordinator for the Lancaster-Lebanon Literacy Council in the capacity of Student Coordinator. I arranged Tutor/Student meetings and tutored in both Basic Reading and ESL. I served much the same function as Tutor Coordinator with the Adult Reading Program of the Trenton Free Public Library.
Additionally, I assisted the classroom teacher with five blind and special needs students at Royer-Greaves School For Blind.
I possess a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing, as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature. I spent a semester abroad at the College of St. Paul and St. Mary in Cheltenham, England.
My tutoring methods are interactive and tailored to the needs of my student. I expect to work with the parents and the students to create the right curriculum for the students.
