Hello!

My name is Michelle and I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, I am a student in the Graduate School of Education getting a M.Phil.Ed in Professional Counseling and my certification in School Counseling. I have already received my M.S.Ed in Counseling and Mental Health. For my undergraduate degree, I went to the University of Connecticut and received an honor's B.A. in Psychology and had a minor in Cognitive Science and a minor in Neuroscience. In high school, I took AP Psychology and AP English.

I have experience tutoring a high school student in Math and a 7th grader in Language Arts (specifically skills needed for the NJ ASK-7). I also have experiencing baby sitting younger kids aged 3 months to 2 years. Additionally, I am starting a 600-hour internship in the Philadelphia public school system as a school counselor (I will be working with students K-12).

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I have a Master's in Counseling and Mental Health, and am currently receiving another Master's in Professional Counseling (both at the University of Pennsylvania). My course load included a course in Career Counseling and Development. Additionally, I am interning in a Philadelphia public high school working in the career counseling office. Career counseling is my passion, and I am well versed in career counseling theories that are applicable in various stages of development.

College Counseling

I have a masters in mental health and counseling and am currently receiving my masters in professional counseling, both from an Ivy League school. I am also working to obtain my certification in school counseling. Currently, I am interning in two different schools in Philadelphia. On the K-8 level I am working in the school counseling office with children preparing their applications to high school, their academic planning, and emotional support. On the high school level I work with the career counselor helping the students with their college applications. I have taken classes on the graduate level in career counseling which includes information on how to aid people starting their career in colleges.

Reading

I have worked with multiple students in preparation for entry exams to private boarding school, entry into special select high schools, and general state testing. In addition, I have worked with students with other primary languages other than English.

Study Skills

I have used various study skills throughout my own educational career. With these skills I have been able to receive two minors, a BA, and a Master's degree. Additionally, my background in counseling helps me to identify the study skills that works best for the student.

I have experience tutoring a 7th grade student in study skills specifically for the NJ ASK standardized tests. The study skills we worked on included test taking skills such as timed persuasive essays, multiple choice questions, and narrative writing skills.

Additional study skill preparations can include working on general organization, term memorization, note taking, and others.
