I am currently an ESOL
teacher with the School District of Philadelphia and have the qualifications and training necessary for this position. I currently teach English
to Speakers of Other Languages to students ranging in ages from 5 to 18, but also have experience working with adult students during my Master’s degree training.
Since graduating from the Lower Moreland School District in 1998, I earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Temple University and a Master’s in Elementary Education
and ESOL from Drexel University. I returned to the Lower Moreland School District to complete my student teaching at Pine Road Elementary, and since receiving my certification in elementary education from the state of Pennsylvania, I have worked as a substitute teacher in Dauphin, Delaware, Philadelphia, Montgomery and Chester Counties.
During my student teaching and substitute teaching experiences, I was required to take on primary instructional responsibilities for the classroom in a manner that is aligned with district educational and behavioral guidelines and is inclusive to all learners. Besides holding a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and ESL
, I have worked with a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst in various cases involving children and young adults; I feel I have been uniquely prepared for creating an inclusive learning environment.
I was hired by the School District of Philadelphia as an ESOL teacher in March of 2013. As an ESOL teacher, I follow the ESOL curriculum designated by the school district but I am responsible for supplementing the curriculum and making the content inclusive for all learners. Being assigned to 3 different schools within the district (elementary, middle and high school) has trained me to be more adaptable, quick thinking and organized than the average teacher.
During my Master’s Degree training, I taught several English classes to adult learners at various community centers in Philadelphia and its suburbs. My past work experience also includes working in Higher Education Administration for over 4 years at Drexel University College of Medicine, where I helped develop programs with the English Language
Center of the University.
