Hey there,

My name is Kevin, as for my education I have a B.S. in Biology, an M.S - Masters of Science in Biomedical Health and just finished medical school. I have taken and passed the medical board exam so I have very in depth knowledge of the sciences, biology, physiology, anatomy, anything clinical vignette style courses .

l taught for one year at a private charter school specifically for children with Autism and I am certified in special needs-based teaching for English and Reading for general students as well as students with special needs. Teaching gave me great skills and tricks to help students remember what may normally be a difficult task to learn, especially as one progresses through higher-level science courses.

Please feel free to contact me, I can go at any pace, have plenty of tips, tricks, diagrams and tools that can help you succeed through a difficult course you may be encountering. Don't get discouraged! We all hit those road blocks and the most important thing is get help earlier on don't wait until the last minute.

Hope to hear from you,

-Kevin

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

As a current member of faculty of a school specifically chartered for children with learning, behavioral and/or developmental challenges I have experience directly working with numerous students with challenges in learning due to diagnoses of ADHD. There is a very unique way of learning to read a student and develop a repertoire of catching and cuing their attention unlike a student who does not have ADHD. Maintaining their focus while concurrently avoiding becoming a distraction is something I do with the majority of my students on a daily basis in a school chartered for children specifically with needs of attention deficits.

Aspergers

I have taken classes and gained certification by New York State (Bd.Of.Education) to work with children with Autism, which, is one of several diagnoses on the spectrum of Autism. Specifically, one student in my assigned homeroom fits this diagnoses and I work with him on a daily basis for several months thus far. I am very familiar with and attenuated to the specific needs of a student of this nature and more so have the knowledge and experience to read the social cues of a student with of this need as well as how to maintain a students attention while avoiding distractions that would not normally be an issue in standardized teaching.

Autism

I was hired in November 2013 to work as an Aide at the School for Language and Communication Development, which is a private charter school catering to children with Autism. All children have been diagnosed on at least one part of the Autism spectrum as students in our school. The New York City Bd. of Education requires certification to work in such a position and I am certified with the "Children With Autism" – (NYC Bd. Of. Ed- Certification).

Biology

I have a B.S. in Biology from City University of New York and an M.B.S. in Biomedical Science from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. GPA: 3.77/4.0

ESL/ESOL

I am a certified English as a second language teacher.

Macintosh

I have extensive knowledge in Macintosh operating systems and have the technical knowledge of machine building, language OS installations, full machine tear downs and rebuilds and full integration for migration systems. Expert level user in iwork, iLife suits, Office for mac, Aperture, Photoshop CSS, iMovie and movie creation and editing as well as garage band and music production.

Photography

Photography has been a passion of mine for over ten years. I have taken both high school and college courses on traditional film photography as well as digital. I have high knowledge and expertise in editing and/or manipulation using Adobe Photoshop and experience photographing for clients privately as well as for an educational publication.

I can aid with instructional and organizational aspects as well as editing and finishing.

Special Needs

As a current employee of a private charter school specifically for high needs/special needs children I have first hand experience and daily interaction with over seventy students, each with a unique set of educational, behavioral and/or social needs that differ from a student with no special needs. Some types of special needs include but are not limited to: Autism, diminished sensory perception, deafness, muscular dystrophy, social anxiety, ADHD, language barriers (ESL) etc. I have also completed as required by the New York State (Dept. of Ed) certification on "Children with Autism", "School Violence" and "Child Abuse Prevention".
