I have taught drawing and painting at the college level as an adjunct professor at Boise State University for six semesters. I have taught students to explore traditional methods in conduction with conceptual/contemporary methodology, reading/writing discussions. All classes were taught from the basis of advancing the students' understanding and abilities as well as to further prepare them for upper division discourse. Students developed visual analysis skills, problems solving skills and visual deconstruction/reconstruction skills. I have also served as a committee member for an undergraduate professional practices in studio art. I have been involved in several private, personal tutoring sessions which all have lead to the further advancement of the student's abilities and skills be them for commercial use or personal ones. In 2006 I earned a BFA in illustration from Boise State University and went on to receive an MFA from The New York Academy of Art where I studied painting, drawing and écorché. As a youth I spent years reading college level art history books and became very aware of what is known as the canon of art and have since furthered and continue to further my knowledge and awareness of art, art history and contemporary discourse.

I am fluent in Spanish/English and can read and write it very proficiently. I have traveled to Spain and South America and continue to study the differences in Spanish dialects. I teach Spanish from the standpoint of teaching how to read and write it and facilitate discussion in Spanish to evaluate what the student has learned about the reading while simultaneously promoting speaking. I am comfortable teaching beginning and intermediate Spanish most but would love the opportunity to teach higher levels as well.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

I have been studying Photoshop since 1997 and have used almost every update since then. I use Photoshop in my own work, creating digital collages. Since Photoshop can really take over a decade to learn, I am only comfortable teaching Beginning and Intermediate levels of Photoshop, and only for specific creative purposes.

Art History

I have taken over 3 years of General Art History, along with History of Ancient Greece and Baroque History in undergrad. In Grad School, I continued my Art History studies independently in conjunction with learning historical approaches to art materials and their origins and applications. As a grade schooler, I read college level Art History books. Currently as a professor, I teach Art History Art from 1900-Present along with composition/design and drawing courses.

Art Theory

I understand Art Theory as the study of Philosophy pertaining to art, regarding beauty, aesthetics, taste, creation etc. These all reflect art and culture and the principles of the underlying work, which can shed light on the motives and intentions as well as it's relationship (if any) to socio-political dynamics. I continue to study Art Theory and teach it as a professor, as it pertains to the greater understanding of art and history.

Drawing

I have been drawing since an early age (5 years old). I studied illustration and received a BFA in 2006 and in 2009 received an MFA in painting and drawing. My tutoring methods include, learning the tools, proper holding, measuring, simplification, perspective and diagrammatic drawing and shading & hatching techniques.

Painting

I am a painter first and foremost. i have studied painting in college and received a BFA in Illustration and an MFA with an emphasis in Painting and drawing in 2009. I have taught painting at the college level and paint plein air almost every other day. I have learned dry brush, watercolor, acrylic oil and egg tempera painting techniques.

Spanish

I am fluent in Spanish/English, and I can read and write it very proficiently and continue to study the dialects of other Spanish speaking countries. I write poetry in Spanish as well. I am comfortable teaching Beginning and Intermediate Spanish. I teach from the standpoint of teaching the student how to read and write the language and facilitating a discussion which promotes speaking in the language.
